MPP Mitchell Announces $20,000 OTF Grant
July 26, 2010 - Lucknow, ON – The Lucknow Library will soon be getting a face-lift, thanks to a $20,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant announced today by Carol Mitchell, MPP Huron-Bruce.
MPP Mitchell was joined by local OTF volunteer Bertha Jean Scott and representatives from the Township of Huron-Kinloss as the news was shared with the local community.
“Libraries play an important role in our rural communities, providing vital resources and services for Huron-Bruce families. These renovations to the Lucknow Library will make this important local facility fully accessible and more energy efficient,” said Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce.
Built in 1910, the Lucknow Library is one of many Historic Carnegie Buildings in Huron-Bruce. Today, the Lucknow Library and Theatre has been slowly renovated back to its historic use with the main floor library, HAWK theatre group upstairs and community meeting rooms in the basement. A 100-year anniversary celebration for the Lucknow Library is being planned for September 12, 2010.
“The Township of Huron-Kinloss is very proud to be part of such a great partnership working with HAWK Theatre, Lucknow Library, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The Lucknow Carnegie building is a great historic building that has been a cherished long-standing focal point in the community.”
The upcoming renovation project includes: replacement of windows; installation of a high-efficiency propane furnace and air conditioning system; restoration of the accessibility ramp; and restoration of the stairwells with a non-slip protective coating.
