MPP Mitchell Announces $15,000 OTF Grant
July 26, 2010 - Southampton, ON – Today, the Historic Saugeen Métis hosted Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce, to share some wonderful news with the local community. Thanks to a recently awarded $15,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the organization is conducting a feasibility study to identify potential renewable energy opportunities.
MPP Mitchell was joined by OTF representative Jim Murray as they presented a plaque from the Foundation to proud representatives from the organization.
“As a government we are committed to fighting climate change through renewable energy sources, which will reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will allow the Historic Saugeen Métis to explore potential green energy projects as a way to generate revenue to support the essential community services it provides,” said Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce.
“The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will enable the Historic Saugeen Métis to retain a professional to conduct the feasibility study, thus meeting a capacity and funding gap,” said Archie Indoe, Vice-President, Historic Saugeen Métis.
“The study will provide a plan for long-term sustainability for the organization, while providing clean energy into the grid to power Ontario homes and businesses. The local community will benefit from the continued existence of the Historic Saugeen Métis main street store front presence in Southampton as it attracts tourists interested in the vibrant history of the area.”
