McGuinty Government Helps Region Find Sustainable Transportation Options
February 26, 2010
The County of Huron’s study will help determine how to provide residents and visitors with better opportunities to use transportation alternatives such as walking, cycling, and carpooling.
This study is the first step to create a transportation demand management plan for the region. The county, in conjunction with a transportation task force, will develop a plan that will:
- assess the current transportation options and the need for alternative forms of transportation
- review best practices from similar rural areas
- identify new initiatives, including public awareness, incentive programs and infrastructure improvements.
The project is funded through the Ontario Transportation Demand Management Municipal Grant Program. It was created to support municipal programs that help reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by making it more attractive to use alternatives to driving alone.
