Seaforth Legion Receives Renovation Funding

MPP Mitchell Announces $31,900 OTF Grant

January 29, 2010 - Seaforth, ON – Today, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 156 in Seaforth received a visit from Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce, to celebrate some wonderful news thanks to a recently awarded $31,900 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the Legion has been able to make important improvements to their community facility.

MPP Mitchell was joined by OTF representative Peggy Menzies as they presented a plaque from the Foundation to proud members of the Seaforth Legion.

“These renovations to the Legion are a part our government’s ongoing commitment to build and sustain the economies of Ontario’s small and rural communities,” said MPP Carol Mitchell. “By adding power doors at the building entrance and replacing the heating and air conditioning system we will enhance energy efficiency, accessibility and comfort for everyone who visits the Seaforth Legion.”

The Seaforth Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 156, was established in 1929 to support WWI veterans and their families. Today the local branch continues to serve its community members, including young children, local organizations and seniors.

“The Seaforth Royal Canadian Legion Branch 156 would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their generous grant of almost $32,000,” said Brian Melady, chairman of the Seaforth Legion Finance Committee. “After undertaking an extensive renovation project in the summer of 2009, where over $70,000 of Legion funds was used to restore our main hall, this grant was instrumental in completing the project with the installation of a high-efficient heating and cooling system and with the installation of a new wheel-chair accessible entry.“

This grant will allow Seaforth Branch 156 to provide Huron East with an updated and easily accessible public meeting place that is used for extensive community social and fund-raising efforts.  Melady said the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation is greatly appreciated and will help the local branch to continue delivering on its mission statement of serving veterans and their dependants and promoting remembrance while acting in the service of Canada and its communities.
