MPP Mitchell Announces $42,500 OTF Grant
January 29, 2010 - Clinton, ON – Today, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 140 in Clinton hosted Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce, to share some wonderful news with the local community. Thanks to a recently awarded $42,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the Legion will able to make important improvements to their community facility.
MPP Mitchell was joined by OTF representative Peggy Menzies as they presented a plaque from the Foundation to proud members of the Clinton Legion.
“These renovations to the Legion are a part our government’s ongoing commitment to build and sustain the economies of Ontario’s small and rural communities,” said MPP Carol Mitchell. “By upgrading the roof on the community hall, it will improve safety and energy efficiency, and ensure that the Legion will continue to be a destination for the community for years to come.”
Established in 1929, the Harry B. Miner Royal Canadian Legion Brach 140 in Clinton is a well-known local not-for-profit organization. The building is used by a variety of community organizations, including schools, service clubs, government, the public health unit and seniors groups. For a number of years the Clinton Legion has provided free space for the girls and women of the Clinton Guiding units and the 3144 Army Cadet group.
“The Clinton Legion would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the grant money to be used to put a new roof on our Legion. I also want to thank our community for their great support through cash donations, along with their support at our fund raising events, which all went towards our new roof fund,” said Ray Chartrand, Second Vice President and chairman of the Clinton Legion roof project. “We look forward to being able to serve our great community by providing a building that can host social events, be a meeting place and a venue for all of your community events.”
