Historic Kincardine Legion Hall Gets Good News from MPP Mitchell - Dec. 18, 2007

Kincardine – On Friday, the Kincardine Royal Canadian Legion celebrated some good news with the local community thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. With the help of the grant, the Legion will be able to make some much needed renovations to the main-level of their Hall. The group was thrilled to host MPP for Huron-Bruce, Carol Mitchell, and OTF representative, TBC, who presented a plaque to mark the occasion.

Carol Mitchell, MPP Huron-Bruce said that the Kincardine Legion was a focal point for the community. It not only serves the veterans but many other community groups. It is great that part of historic Kincardine has been preserved.

The newly awarded grant will allow the Legion to undertake Phase 2 of a project to see the Legion Hall become completely accessible. The funds from the Foundation will be used to renovate both main level washrooms to become wheelchair accessible and install baby changing stations to make them family friendly. The completion of the project will help ensure that the building is both accessible to all member of the local community and make the facility available for all community activities and events.

Since 1937, the Kincardine Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has been working to;

  • To help veterans and to better serve the community.

  • To maintain the structure of our heritage building, which is over 100 years old, and to make it readily accessible to all members of the public.

  • To maintain local connections with the various local groups and events including youth education, Air Cadets, Scouts, Kincardine Scottish pipe band, and to ensure that all physically challenged will be able to participate in all functions.
