Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell appointed to newly created cabinet committee on Poverty Reduction - Dec. 7, 2007

QUEEN’S PARK – Carol Mitchell, MPP, Huron-Bruce has been appointed to the newly created Cabinet Committee on Poverty Reduction (CCPR). The new committee will oversee the development and approval of a framework that will lead to the establishment and implementation of Ontario’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, a cornerstone of the 2007 Speech from the Throne.

The McGuinty Liberal poverty reduction strategy will provide all Ontario families with more opportunities for success and a higher standard of living. The strategy includes a plan that would provide dental benefits to low-income families, and builds on measures already in progress such as boosting the minimum wage to $10.25 by 2010, increasing child care spaces, providing more affordable housing, and implementing the new Ontario Child Benefit.

“I am very pleased to be appointed to this challenging endeavour”, stated Mrs. Mitchell. “Our strategy will ensure that all of our families have access to better health care, stronger public education and more affordable housing”, said Mitchell. “We need everybody at their best if we're going to succeed as a society and as an economy”.
