Lucknow History to be Preserved Thanks to Forthcoming Book
LUCKNOW – On Wednesday August 15, the Lucknow Kinettes, the Lucknow 2008
Reunion Committee and the Lucknow 2008 History Book Committee welcomed
Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell and OTF representative, at the Sentinel
Office in Lucknow for the official announcement of an $11,000 grant from
the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The three groups will produce an
important piece of literature celebrating their town’s heritage for
release in 2008 in conjunction with the town of Lucknow’s 150th
Anniversary celebrations.
“This is wonderful news for the residents of Lucknow,” said MPP
Mitchell. “Preserving the institutions and historical events that help
define our communities is a very important part of respecting the past
while looking towards the future”.
The book, to be made ready and available in time for the anniversary
celebrations next summer, will contain important, up-to-date history, in
an effort to increase community pride, participation and involvement.
Over the past 150 years, the town has gone through many changes and seen
the world change. The groups involved are excited to help share just how
Lucknow has moved with these changes.
Tracy Meurs, Chair of the history book committee is grateful to the
Ontario Government and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its
participation in this very exciting project. “This grant will go a long
way in ensuring that the book will be of the highest quality and at the
same time remain affordable to all residents in the community.” said
Meurs.
“The information the committee has gathered to date is priceless and the
contribution from the many volunteers pulling the information together
is invaluable”.
