investment benefits Southampton Lawn Bowling Club through Ontario
Trillium Foundation (OTF) Grant -
July 24, 2007
Southampton – On Tuesday, July 24th the Southampton Lawn Bowling Club (SLBC)
started their day off with some exciting news thanks to a $7,300 grant
from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Carol Mitchell, MPP for
Huron-Bruce, joined OTF representative Liz Fry in congratulating the
group on their accomplishment.
“This is wonderful news for the Southampton Lawn
Bowling Club and for the residents of the community” said Carol
Mitchell, MPP Huron-Bruce. “Preserving the institutions that help define
our communities is a very important part of respecting the past while
looking towards the future”.
Over the next six months, the grant will allow the
Southampton Lawn Bowling Club to purchase new turf maintenance equipment
to help maintain the greens. The new equipment will ensure the club
maintains greens at a level that encourages members to continue
participating in the programs offered and involve the club in
tournaments, while continuing to engage the community of Southampton in
a healthy physical activity.
“With this grant today, we will be able to purchase a
new in-ground watering system and perhaps replace a mower,” said SLBC
President Karen Reynolds. “Good greens are essential to attract players
to jitneys and tournaments.”
The Southampton Lawn Bowling Club has been a
community mainstay and activity for decades. Its facilities can be used
for other community meetings and social activities. A Chapter member
with the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association, the club provides lawn
bowling games, jitneys and tournaments. There are coaching and classes
available to both club members and others interested in the sport of
lawn bowling. For more information, please contact Watt Rodgers at (519)
