Cargill Community Centre Kitchen Gets an Upgrade Thanks to OTF Grant
Brockton – On Tuesday, July 24 residents of the
Municipality of Brockton and Cargill
Community Centre received some good thanks to a $50,000 grant from the
Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce,
was joined by OTF representative Jim Murray to congratulate the
municipality on their achievement.
“This is wonderful news for the residents of Cargill,”
said Carol Mitchell. “Preserving the institutions that help define our
communities is a very important part of respecting the past while
looking towards the future”.
Awarded in March, the grant will help Cargill
Community Centre to make much needed renovations to its kitchen. The
expansion and kitchen upgrade will make the Cargill Community Centre
more economically viable to operate and offer more enhanced services to
everyone that uses the facility and provide a better environment for
volunteers to work.
“Here’s another shining example of the Ontario
Trillium Foundation’s tremendous contribution to rural Ontario,” said
Brockton Mayor Charlie Bagnato. “Time and time again these projects
promote the economic, social, and environmental well being, as well as,
historical preservation of a community. We are very proud, here in
Brockton, of this extremely popular gathering place. The partnership and
support of the Foundation will be remembered and deeply appreciated by
the entire community for many years to come.”
The Corporation of the Municipality of Brockton is
rural municipality with a population of 9,658 within a number of
amalgamated communities including: Walkerton, Brant and Greenock
Township. The town mission encourages opportunities to experience
social, economic and environmental benefits of recreation. The Cargill
Community Centre is used throughout the year by the residents of the
surrounding municipalities for various community gatherings and events.
