McGuinty government investment assists victims of crime - June 11, 2007

GODERICH — Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell was in Goderich on June 11 on behalf of Ontario’s Attorney General to announce a community grant of $39,600 to the Women Today of Huron to help victims of crime under the Neighbours, Families and Friends Campaign.

The grant, which places a priority on victims of hate crimes, domestic violence, child/youth crimes and sexual assault, is intended to provide services and resources that empower victims of crime to rebuild their lives.

“This is an extremely important program for the community.” said Carol Mitchell, MPP Huron-Bruce. “Helping those victimized by crime to rebuild their lives will go a long way towards building stronger, healthier communities”.

The Neighbours, Families and Friends campaign aims to disseminate information, access new and existing networks and engage community champions to enhance the safety of abused women and children. By mobilizing communities to recognize and respond to the abuse of women, they become part of the solution.
