McGuinty Government allocates
$30 million to realigned CCACs - January 18,

Local Investments Further Build Capacity in Health Care System
Clinton – The McGuinty government is providing $ 1,285,600 to the South
West Community Care Access Centre to better serve their clients and
increase access to local community care, Carol Mitchell, MPP announced
today on behalf of Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman.
As well, Carol Mitchell also announced that the South West Community
Care Access Centre comes from a realignment of provincial CCACs to match
the boundaries of 14 Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs)
boundaries as part of the government’s ongoing plan to improve the way
health care is managed.
“Aligning Community Care Access Centres with LHINs and our local
investment of
$ 1,285,600 will make it easier for clients in Huron-Bruce to find
health care services they need and to gain better access to those
services,” said Carol Mitchell. “The realignment does not change the way
residents receive services – they will still go to the same storefront
offices, and see the same case managers and health care staff.”
Besides improving access, this alignment will improve how CCACs operate
by improving the planning, coordination and accountability of health
services.
The Executive Director of South West CCAC is Sandra Coleman and the
Board Chair is Evelyn Harris Williams .
“Linking CCACs with LHINs will also make them more responsive to
changing community needs,” added Carol Mitchell.
The additional funding is part of an overall $30 million investment
included in the government’s $142 million Emergency Department Action
Plan to alleviate some of the pressure on hospital emergency
departments. “Community investments such as these for CCACs will build
capacity in the health care system to help it respond effectively and
efficiently to patient needs,” said Smitherman.
This initiative is part of the McGuinty government’s plan to build a
health care system that delivers on three priorities – keeping Ontarians
healthy, reducing wait times and improving access to doctors and nurses.
